What is GRAB?

GRAB is an experimental synthesizer that converts the iPhone's magnetometer (magnetic field sensor) readings into real-time audio. Hold your iPhone near electronic devices to hear the electromagnetic environment as sound.

Why doesn't the app make sound when I open it?

Tap the central monitor area (which displays "TAP TO START") to begin audio playback. Audio is muted until you tap.

What do the four bottom pads do?

Each pad applies a real-time effect: CRUSH (bit-crusher), COMB (comb filter), REVERB (with shimmer), and STUTTER (BPM-synced repeat). Tap to engage momentarily, or long-press to enable HOLD latch.

What is the LINK button?

GRAB supports Ableton Link. Tap LINK to open the settings sheet — if another Link-enabled app (Ableton Live, Logic, GarageBand, Korg Gadget, etc.) is running on the same Wi-Fi network, GRAB will sync tempo automatically.

Why does the sound change when I enable the camera?

With the camera enabled, the light entering the lens modulates the volume and timbre. Waving your hand over the lens creates a tremolo effect.

Does the app collect any data?

No. All sound is generated on-device. No data leaves your iPhone. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Does GRAB work in the background?

Yes. Audio continues to play when the app is in the background or the screen is locked.
